First off-road trail opened on Hog Hill in June 2008. Said to require body armour and for the seatpin to be lowered, this section and the nearby Descent are not suited to mass-start XCO racing. Away from the built trail, the ground is hard-cracked dry clay which turns sticky in any wet conditions. The specification for the relocation of Eastway to Hog Hill stated that off-road trails would primarily be needed to cater for mass-start racing.
